A man believed to be a transient was struck and killed on southbound Interstate 805 in National City on Thursday night.

The victim was struck just north of the Highway 54 around 9:35 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. It wasn’t immediately clear if one or more vehicles struck the victim.

The off-ramps between the two freeways were closed after the accident, according to the CHP.

CBS8 reported the victim was a transient who was struck while trying to cross the busy freeway.

The fatal accident remains under investigation.
