An investigation was underway Wednesday into a carjacking at a Vista gas station in which a handgun was fired and the stolen car later wrecked.
The two victims told deputies one of the suspects fired a handgun around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, just before they jumped out of the vehicle at the Chevron station at the corner of Emerald and West drives, according to San Diego Sheriff‘s Sgt. Martha Hernandez. The suspects fled in the victims’ car and headed south on Emerald Drive.
Less than 10 minutes later, deputies and California Highway Patrol responding to a single-vehicle crash on nearby Sunset Drive found the victims’ vehicle, Hernandez said. A witness told deputies the suspects had crashed the vehicle into a pole, which had left it disabled, then left the scene in a small red sedan.
A description of the suspects was not immediately available.
Anyone with additional information was asked to call the sheriff’s department at (858) 565-5200.
