A stepped-up enforcement drive at rail crossings in Old Town and Barrio Logan on Wednesday resulted in scores of citations and two arrests.

The crackdown on right-of-way violations along train tracks in the 4000 block of Taylor Street and the 1300 block of South 28th Street took place from noon to 5:30 p.m., according to San Diego police.

During the detail, police issued 188 tickets and 44 warnings, impounded two vehicles, and took two people into custody, San Diego Police Department traffic Officer Mark McCullough said. Details on the alleged violations were not immediately released.

Taking part in the sweep along with SDPD personnel were members of the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad Police Department, Amtrak Railroad Police, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Railroad Enforcement Unit and the Metropolitan Transit Authority.

The effort was conducted as part of Operation Lifesaver, a nationwide railroad-safety program.
