A man almost had his car stolen as he slept in it next to Balboa Park Saturday.
The man, 62, was asleep in the back seat of his parked 2001 Toyota Echo around 5:15 a.m. at the 1900 block of Sixth Avenue. The suspect opened the driver’s door and sat down.
Police said the wood-be car thief was surprised by the man in the back seat. The attempted crook punched the victim, and demanded his keys.
The victim escaped and called police.
The suspect, identified as Eleverado Diaz-Deleon, 28, was arrested when officers arrived.
