An 80-year-old motorist was killed Friday when his car swerved off a street and careened down a landscaped embankment in Mission Bay Park.
The man lost control of his eastbound 1996 Jaguar on a curving stretch of roadway in the 1200 block of Sea World Drive shortly before 12:30 p.m., according to San Diego police. The car crossed the westbound lanes, went down a slope and hit several palm trees, Officer Frank Cali said.
The driver, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene.
Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, Cali said.
