A woman whose son was assaulted by a neighbor at an Oceanside apartment complex was found in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound, and police are investigating the two incidents Monday.

The shooting victim and another woman told police around 5 p.m. Sunday that their children had been physically and verbally assaulted by a neighbor at the apartment complex in the 4700 block of Frazee Road near College Boulevard after they had accidentally hit him with a twig, Oceanside Police Lt. Valencia Saadat said.

Neither child was injured, and the women declined to press charges after the man agreed to keep away from their kids, Saadat said. Officers documented the incident in a crime report.

About two hours later, officers went back to the complex after a woman reported that several people involved in the earlier incident were on her boyfriend’s enclosed patio, and one had broken a patio window, Saadat said.

She said she and her boyfriend could not leave because they were afraid of the people who had gained access to the patio.

As she was on the phone, dispatchers got several more calls from the complex. Saadat said various callers reported that shots were fired, several people were shouting and a bleeding woman was on the ground in the parking lot.

A witness told Fox 5 that a man shot the victim after she confronted him near the building’s pool.

The wounded woman was flown to a hospital in an unknown condition, Saadat said.

Saadat said the victim was the mother of one of the juveniles assaulted by the neighbor, and investigators believe the shooting was related to the earlier incident.

No arrests had been made as of early this morning, an Oceanside police dispatcher said.
