A predawn fire destroyed a residential garage/dwelling unit in a North County neighborhood Tuesday, leaving a man temporarily homeless and causing an estimated $50,000 worth of damage.
The non-injury blaze erupted for unknown reasons in the 2200 block of Oceanside Boulevard shortly after 2:30 a.m. The resident of the garage and his dog were able to escape safely, as were the occupants of the attached home.
It took crews about 20 minutes to extinguish the flames, which also damaged the house and a vehicle, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.
The American Red Cross was called in to help the displaced man arrange for interim lodging.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
