Small miracles still happen.
Emily the Chihuahua is safe after being evacuated from the Mission Animal and Bird Hospital in Oceanside early Monday morning.
The call went out just after 3 a.m. to the 600 block of Benet Road. Fire crews responded to the animal hospital after the vets smelled smoke inside the building.
The workers evacuated the building but had to bring Emily the Chihuahua with them, due to her critical medical needs.
The 11-year-old dog has a type of dog diabetes and needs her sugar levels checked every hour. Fortunately, there was no fire. No other animals were evacuated and crews cleared the scene shortly after arriving.
