A 23-year-old driver who may have been under the influence of alcohol and marijuana crashed his speeding SUV in San Marcos, severely injuring himself and his passenger, sheriff’s officials said Monday.
The driver of the speeding gray Toyota 4Runner apparently lost control on a curve on westbound Borden Road near Mulberry Drive shortly after 8:30 p.m. Sunday, sheriff’s Cpl. Agustin Rosas said. The SUV rolled several times.
Both the driver and his passenger, a 24-year-old man, were thrown from the SUV, Rosas said.
A deputy patrolling the area spotted the empty SUV on its roof in a dirt field off the roadway. Paramedics summoned to the scene took the driver and passenger to Palomar Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries, according to the corporal.
Rosas said alcohol and marijuana may have been factors in the crash.
