The county Medical Examiner Sunday confirmed that a body found under 65 feet of water in Lake Murray more than a week ago was the remains of a San Diego State University undergraduate.
Christian Pier Ayala, 18, had left a suicide note in his dorm room, according to the medical examiner.
Ayala’s personal effects and a set of footprints heading into the water were found on the shore of Lake Murray, about a mile from San Diego State, on March 25. The following day, a bottle of vodka and a punctured raft were discovered floating in the lake.
Scuba divers and boat crews searched the lake waters with a remote- controlled sonar device provided by a private company, and eventually found the body under about 65 feet of water.
“A diver recovered the body of Ayala and his death from drowning was confirmed,” the Medical Examiner said.
