A 48-year-old transient who allegedly pulled a knife and threatened police officers who attempted to coax him out from behind an Oceanside business was behind bars Tuesday.
Officers initially contacted the suspect, identified by police as Edward Nett, because he was loitering behind the shopping center on South Oceanside Boulevard, just east of Interstate 5, shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to Oceanside Police Lt. Leonard Cosby.
Cosby said the officers told Nett he would be free to leave the area following a records check, but he allegedly pulled a knife on one of the officers and said, “I’m going to kill you.” The lawmen drew their service weapons and started to back away, the lieutenant said.
At some point during the standoff, the officers called for help. A third officer arrived and zapped Nett with a Taser, then took him into custody, Cosby said.
Nett was booked into the Vista Detention facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting an executive officer, according to police and jail records.
