A man of around 35 was fatally struck by a pickup truck while attempting to walk across an Escondido intersection against a red light, police said Monday.

The driver of an eastbound Chevy 2500, a 58-year-old San Marcos man, struck the pedestrian at Lincoln Avenue and Broadway about 11:15 p.m. Sunday, said Escondido Police Lt. Justin Murphy, adding that the driver entered the intersection on a green light and did not see the man in time to stop.

Officers arrived to find the severely injured pedestrian lying in the roadway, Murphy said. He was taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he later died. His name was not immediately available.

Murphy said the Chevy’s driver was not suspected of drunken driving.
