Surveyors working in Alpine on Wednesday uncovered skeletal remains of a person, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Lt. John Maryon said homicide detectives were called to the 3200 block of Alpine Boulevard and will be handling the investigation.

He said it appeared the remains had been at the location for a lengthy period.

A cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
