Eleven young people broke into a vacant San Marcos house early Thursday and caused $5,000 in damage before being arrested, authorities said.

The possibly gang-related burglary at 2727 Casa Linda Way was reported at 12:49 a.m., according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Sgt. Henry Lebitski.

“A large group of adult and juvenile males and females were seen jumping the fence from the Apostolic Assembly of Faith Church on Smilax Road into a neighboring residential yard,” Lebitski said in a statement. “Once over the fence, they forced entry into the vacant residence, where they committed approximately $5,000 worth of damage to the inside of the home.”

Deputies with help from a sheriff’s helicopter crew and a K-9 unit took the suspects into custody without incident, Lebitski said, adding gang detectives were handling the follow-up investigation.
