An alleged repeat drunk driver with a suspended license crashed her car into a concrete bridge support in eastern Escondido and was severely injured Sunday.
Amanda Bauer, 24, of Santee resident, may have fallen asleep at the wheel of her white Chevy Malibu shortly before it smashed into the concrete abutment for a bridge over-crossing on East El Norte Parkway near Key Lime Way around 6:30 a.m., according to Escondido police Lt. Justin Murphy.
Murphy said Bauer had been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving once before and had a suspended license. A photo of the sedan provided by police showed several liquor bottles on the passenger side floor.
Bauer was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained serious injuries to her head and right leg in the crash, the lieutenant said. She was taken to Palomar Medical Center to be treated.
Murphy asked anyone with additional information on the crash to call Traffic Division Officer Tyler Songer at (760) 839-4454.
