Smoldering fireworks likely sparked a blaze that charred around a dozen palm trees in Escondido’s Kit Carson Park, a fire official said Saturday.

Firefighters were sent to the park off Bear Valley Parkway near Beethoven Drive around 10:15 p.m. Friday. They found 10 to 15 trees in flames, along with the grass below, Battalion Chief Gary Correiar of the Escondido Fire Department said.

Crews extinguished the fires, and no injuries were reported, according to the battalion chief.

Correiar said fireworks found smoldering in a parking lot next to the burned trees were likely the fire’s source of ignition.
