Homicide detectives Wednesday investigated the suspicious death of a male whose decomposing body was found in a river basin near the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

The body was found by U.S. Border Patrol agents, who notified police at 5:16 p.m. Tuesday, according to San Diego Police homicide Lt. Paul Rorrison.

“Detectives were unable to determine a cause of death due to the condition of the body, but evidence obtained at the scene indicates a suspicious death,” Rorrison said without elaboration.

An autopsy was pending to determine the cause of death and the male’s identity, he said.

Anyone with additional information about the case was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters can choose to remain anonymous.
