A man who allegedly robbed a South Bay credit union Thursday was arrested a short time later following a brief foot chase and a scuffle with a deputy.
Tulio David Gasca, 24, allegedly confronted a teller at the North Island Credit Union branch in the 1100 block of Palm Avenue in Imperial Beach and demanded cash shortly after 12:30 p.m., according to sheriff’s Sgt. Ted Greenawald. The clerk complied, handing over an undisclosed amount of money.
When a deputy caught up with Gasca in the 1200 block of Calla Avenue, six blocks northeast of the site of the robbery, the suspect made a failed attempt to escape on foot, Greenawald said.
As he was being taken into custody, the suspect fought with the deputy, resulting in minor injuries to both, the sergeant said.
Gasca was booked into county jail on suspicion of robbery, resisting arrest and battery on a peace officer.
