Investigators sought Thursday to determine who set a series of small arson fires along in a City Heights neighborhood overnight.
The five non-injury blazes in the 5200 and 5300 blocks of Wightman Street erupted between 11:45 p.m. Wednesday and 1:30 a.m., Thursday, according to San Diego Police.
They scorched several fences and various debris, including a discarded Christmas tree, some items in the bed of a pickup truck and two fences.
“The area where these fires occurred is littered with trash — several mattresses, big-screen televisions, boxes, clothes and other flammable debris,” SDPD spokesman Humberto Hernandez said. “Once again we ask that the community keeps these streets and alleyways clear of trash. These fuel sources invite individuals to burn them, making these fires crimes of opportunity.”
No suspects had been identified as of midday.
The Metro Arson Strike Team was investigating.
