A 45 year-old woman jaywalking across a busy Midway District street was hit by a car and severely injured, authorities said Saturday.

The pedestrian attempted to dash across Rosecrans Street against a red light at the intersection with Lytton Street shortly after 9 p.m. Friday and was struck by a westbound sedan driven by a 26-year-old man, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.

The injured woman was taken to a hospital to be treated for a life- threatening brain bleed, a fractured pelvis and a broken leg, Heims said.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were involved in the crash, he said.
