Homicide detectives Thursday asked for the public’s help in identifying who shot a 36-year-old man dead in Chula Vista more than 20 years ago.

David Scott Benbow was mortally wounded by an unknown shooter on Dec. 5, 1993, while working in the garage at his home in the 4300 block of Vista Coronado, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Benbow died at the scene.

Anyone with information about the shooter was asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail at (858) 974-2321, or San Diego County Crime Stoppers’ anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477. Crime Stoppers offers a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
