Two pedestrians were seriously hurt Thursday in separate incidents little more than an hour apart in Lemon Grove and San Diego.

The first victim, a woman whose age was not given, was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck at the intersection of Alton and Skyline Drives in Lemon Grove around 6:10 p.m.

San Diego County Sheriff’s Sgt. Michelle McPhail said the driver remained at the scene. It was not known if the victim was in a crosswalk when she was struck.

In the second incident, a 56-year-old woman crossing a street in the Birdland neighborhood suffered life-threatening injuries when she was struck crossing the 3000 block of Health Center Drive around 7:45 p.m.

San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims said the driver, a 54-year-old man, tried to swerve his vehicle, but was unable to avoid striking the victim, who was not in a crosswalk.
