A man who fatally beat his younger stepbrother during a fight in a Mountain View alley last summer pleaded guilty Friday to voluntary manslaughter.
Jose Hernan Meza, 35, will be sentenced April 23 to 11 years in state prison.
The defendant pleaded guilty on the day his preliminary hearing was to go forward.
Meza was already in custody on an unrelated charge last summer when he was charged with murder in the July 7 death of 25-year-old Jorge Jimenez.
Deputy District Attorney Roy Lai said the victim and the defendant went into an alley behind their house late on July 7 and got into a fight.
Officers found Jimenez lying on an access road off the 3700 block of Hemlock Street about 11:15 p.m. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead from blunt-force trauma two days later, SDPD Lt. Mike Hastings said.
The reason for the fight was unclear.
