Police are interviewing a person of interest in connection with the shooting death Saturday night of a 42-year-old man, in the Allied Gardens community of San Diego.

Officers responding at 10 p.m. to a call of gunshots fired in the 6400 block of Clara Lee Avenue found a 42-year-old man lying on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso, said San Diego Police Lt. Mike Hastings.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A suspect, a 5-foot, 10-inch tall black man weighing 200 pounds, was seen leaving the area in a black SUV, Hastings said.

A few minutes after the shooting, officers conducted a vehicle stop in the area of Scripps Poway Parkway on an SUV that matched the suspect vehicle description. A person of interest was being questioned by homicide investigators.
