A San Diego police officer and a suspected drunken driver were each hospitalized early Friday after their vehicles collided at a Clairemont intersection.

The officer was headed south in the 4600 block of Genesee Avenue and responding to a call when the suspected drunken driver ran a stop sign and his car collided with the police cruiser in an intersection around 11:55 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego Police Officer Frank Cali.

Both drivers were transported to a hospital, he said. The extent of their injuries was unclear.

The suspected drunken driver was also arrested, according to Cali.
