Homicide detectives sought Thursday to determine what led to the gunshot deaths of a man and woman in an Oceanside home.

Officers responded to a request to check on the welfare of a woman at the home in the 300 block of Horizon Lane about 10 p.m. Wednesday. Getting no response from anyone inside, the patrol personnel forced entry and found the bodies alongside a gun.

“Whether the incident is a murder-suicide or double homicide has not yet been determined,” Lt. Leonard Cosby told reporters.

The identities of the deceased, who appeared to have been in their 50s or 60s, remained unconfirmed late this morning, the lieutenant said.

Investigators were not seeking any outstanding suspects, according to Cosby.

The pair were believed to be a former couple who no longer were dating, NBC 7/39 reported.
