A 26-year-old man allegedly robbed a cab driver at knifepoint following a ride from La Mesa to just west of Balboa Park on Friday, but was arrested nearby less than an hour later.

Daunte Sherrod Franklin asked the driver to stop in the vicinity of Fir Street and Second Avenue around 11:15 a.m., pulled a knife and took a small amount of cash, San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick said.

Franklin ran off on Third Avenue, but didn’t go far, according to the sergeant. Police caught up to him 50 minutes later near an apartment complex at corner of Second Avenue and Fir Street and arrested him on suspicion of robbery, he said.

The cab driver was not hurt, Battrick said.
