An El Cajon man who died Christmas Eve after being shocked with a Taser by U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agents at the San Ysidro Port of Entry was identified Monday.

Francisco Manuel Cesena, 40, was crossing into the United States on Wednesday afternoon when he was taken aside and identified as a felon, according to San Diego police and the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Cesena allegedly jumped over a counter and attacked a border agent that came to take him to jail shortly after 7 p.m. During the fight that ensued, Cesena was shocked and collapsed, federal agents said.

San Diego police sent to the border crossing found customs agents trying to revive Cesena, who was declared dead at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center.

A cause of death has not been determined. No information about Cesena’s criminal history was made available.

San Diego police Lt. Paul Rorrison said four federal agents allegedly hurt by Cesena were taken to a hospital to be checked out.
