A woman jogging along the North County coast Sunday was killed when an SUV swerved onto a sidewalk in Carlsbad.
No reason was immediately apparent why a 52-year-old Oceanside man, driving the 1998 Ford Expedition, swerved onto the sidewalk on northbound Carlsbad Boulevard north of Tamarack Avenue. It crashed into the jogger around 7:15 a.m., Carlsbad police Lt. Mickey Williams said.
Medics took the injured woman to Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside where she was later pronounced dead, Williams said. Her name was not immediately available.
Williams said that although police were still investigating, alcohol or drugs were not suspected. It was not immediately known if the driver was cited in connection with the crash.
Carlsbad Boulevard was closed between Tamarack Avenue and Hemlock Avenue following the crash, he said.
