Woman was placed on a psychiatric hold for mental evaluation after she allegedly set her mobile home on fire on Friday in rural East County, a Sherriff’s lieutenant said
“A call came in of a person apparently having some mental issues,” Sheriff’s Lt. Jim Walker said.
The homeowner had run off by the time deputies arrived, but she was apprehended in the field, he said.
The fire was reported at 9:03 a.m. in the 32000 block of Campo Road and by the time firefighters arrived at the scene, the home was “a total loss,” Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser said.
The mobile homeowner, identified only as a woman, was treated by a medical unit and transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The victim’s condition was not known.
“The woman was taken into custody on a mental illness hold,” Walker said. “Detectives are investigating a possible arson charge.”
The homeowner is the only suspect in the case, he said.
