A possibly drunk man darted onto a Ramona roadway, was hit by a pickup truck, and died.

The man was struck by a 2002 Ford Ranger while he and a companion were attempting to run east across Main Street south of 11th Street around 6:10 p.m. Saturday, according to the California Highway and the county Medical Examiner’s Office.

The victim did not see the oncoming truck, which was headed north at about 35 miles per hour, and was hit. He became lodged under its front suspension, a CHP dispatcher said.

Responding medics tried to resuscitate the man, but he died at the scene shortly before 6:30 p.m., authorities said.

The CHP said it was possible that the victim had been drinking alcohol before the crash and was intoxicated. His name and age were not immediately available,

The truck’s driver, a Julian resident, was not injured, authorities said.
