A 27-year-old man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of robbing a Carlsbad department store packed with last-minute holiday shoppers, police said.

Leonard John Tri, 27, was charged in the robbery of a Marshalls store at 1834 Marron Road near Westfield Plaza around 2 p.m. Sunday, according to Carlsbad police.

The robber walked out of the store with merchandise, then displayed what appeared to be a gun when confronted by store security, police said.

Police combed the area but could not immediately locate the suspect. Around 4:20 p.m., a man matching a description of the robber was spotted in the 900 block of Tamarack Avenue, police said.

Officers arrested Tri and an alleged 36-year-old getaway accomplice at 970 Tamarack Ave. without incident.

“At that time, officers also detained Jason Eisenhart,” police said of the alleged accomplice. “Eisenhart was arrested for being an accessory to the crime due to the fact that Eisenhart assisted Tri with his escape from the crime scene.”

When he was taken into custody, Tri was allegedly in possession of a knife that was shaped to resemble a gun. Police said that weapon was likely what Tri displayed to store security rather than an actual firearm.
