A 75-year-old Valley Center man was in custody Friday on suspicion of threatening to blow up San Diego Gas & Electric trucks over a land use dispute.
Frits Leo Versteegh was arrested and booked into the Vista jail Thursday on suspicion of making a bomb threat, according to San Diego County Sheriff‘s Sgt. Jeff Lauhon.
Around 4 p.m. Thursday, deputies learned that an email had been sent to a local news station, threatening to place explosives in the area of Spearhead Trail and Circle R Drive in Valley Center, Lauhon said in a statement.
“The sender claimed to be targeting SDG&E work trucks in a land use dispute,” he said, adding that the area in question was closed for two hours while the bomb and arson investigators searched it. No explosives were found.
Versteegh, a nearby resident, was identified as the email sender, Lauhon said without elaboration. No details of the land use dispute were immediately disclosed.
