San Diego Gas & Electric customers in Chula Vista and Scripps Ranch lost power on Wednesday and Thursday in separate, unrelated incidents.

A driver crashed into a power transformer in Chula Vista on Wednesday, which knocked out electrical service to thousands of area homes and businesses.

The non-injury crash in the 2400 block of New Seabury Way near Shoreacres Drive was reported shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, Chula Vista police said. Power was fully restored about 11 p.m.

In Scripps Ranch, nearly 1,000 lost power at dinnertime Thursday and remained in the dark early Friday.

The outage struck at 6:32 p.m. Thursday and was expected to last until 6:30 a.m. Friday, according to SDG&E.
