An apparently mentally unstable man was Tasered by police while being taken into custody in Mission Gorge early Thursday, police said.
The man called 911 at 6:42 a.m. and said someone was pointing a laser at him and trying to kill him in the 7300 block of Mission Gorge Road, according to San Diego police Officer Frank Cali.
Officers arrived and spent about an hour trying to calm the man down, he said, adding that ultimately, a Taser stun gun was used to take the man into custody.
Because he was Tasered, the man is expected to be taken to a hospital to be physically checked out before he is taken for a mental evaluation, Cali said.
