The discovery of some suspicious-looking devices in a South Bay home Monday prompted a road closure and precautionary evacuations of nearby houses as a bomb squad investigated, authorities reported.

A landlord found the possibly explosive objects in the rental residence on East Whitney Street in Chula Vista shortly after 9 a.m., according to police.

Officers shut down the roadway to through traffic and cleared everyone out of five surrounding homes as a sheriff’s ordinance-handling team looked over the devices to determine if they were dangerous.
