A pickup truck veered off a Rancho Peñasquitos street Friday, vaulted over a wall and smashed into a house, leaving the driver with serious injuries and causing heavy damage to the home.
The 32-year-old motorist lost control of his westbound 2000 Toyota Tacoma for unknown reasons in the 7900 block of Park Village Road about 8:45 a.m., according to San Diego police.
The vehicle hit a curb and became airborne, then crashed to the ground in the 12000 block of Ragweed Street and plowed into the front of a residence, SDPD Officer Frank Cali said.
Medics had to extricate the driver from the truck, which wound up almost entirely inside the house, fire Capt. Joe Amador said. Two people were inside the home, but escaped injury.
Emergency crews freed the motorist from the wrecked vehicle and took him to a hospital for treatment of major back injuries.
The cause of the accident was under investigation. Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor, Cali said.
A city engineer was called in to determine if the residence was habitable pending repairs, according to Amador.
