The former congressional campaign aide who accused then-candidate Carl DeMaio of sexual harassment was out on bail Wednesday following an alleged assault on his mother last week near Del Mar, it was reported.
Todd Bosnich, 29, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the fight with his mother at a home on Caminito Vista Estrellado on Friday, when he allegedly pushed her, threw a glass at her and disabled her phone, San Diego police Lt. Kevin Mayer told U-T San Diego.
Officers initially took a report, then arrested Bosnich at the same address four days later on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, battery and disabling a telephone line, according to U-T San Diego. He was booked into San Diego Central Jail but posted bail around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, a jail employee said.
Bosnich made headlines during the contentious congressional campaign between DeMaio and incumbent Rep. Scott Peters, D-San Diego, after alleging DeMaio once masturbated in front of him and engaged in a pattern of sexual harassment against him. Both DeMaio and Bosnich are gay. DeMaio has denied the claims.
The DeMaio campaign has also alleged that Bosnich was involved in a burglary at DeMaio’s campaign headquarters on Black Mountain Road in May, in which computer cables were cut, monitors smashed and DeMaio’s campaign “playbook” was taken.
Peters, who is leading by more than 5,400 votes, said he never saw the document and that his campaign staff turned it over to authorities.
The District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges in either incident.
