A 23-year-old man was jailed Friday on suspicion of drunken driving and other offenses after he rammed a sheriff deputy’s cruiser in Vista, setting off a brief pursuit that ended when he man lost control of his vehicle and sideswiped a tree.

Israel Guadalupe Garcia was pulled over in the 900 block of East Vista Way about 11:30 p.m. Thursday for running a red light, according to San Diego County Sheriff‘s Sgt. Dwain Washington. During the traffic stop, Garcia allegedly put his vehicle in reverse and rammed a deputy’s cruiser before speeding off.

The deputy gave chase as Garcia took East Vista Way to Palm Drive, where he lost control of his vehicle and eventually sideswiped a tree on Avocado Terrace, Washington said in a statement.

Other deputies arrived and Garcia was taken into custody on suspicion of drunken driving, driving with a suspended driver’s license and other offenses, the sergeant said.

No one was injured.
