A male pedestrian running across State Route 67 near Mussey Grade Road was killed early Saturday by a pickup truck.

The incident occurred about 2:27 a.m. in the unincorporated Rosemont area, Ramona Fire Department Capt. Jose Ramirez said.

California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Pearlstein said the pickup’s driver, a 24-year-old Ramona man, stopped at the scene.

Pearlstein said the man was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado north on 67 approaching Mussey Grade Road at 50 mph.

“As he was negotiating the right-hand curve in the roadway, he suddenly noticed a male pedestrian running southbound across the roadway directly in front of him,” Pearlstein said. “He did not have time to brake, but turned to the left to avoid the pedestrian. The right-front bumper struck the pedestrian, propelling him onto the south shoulder.”

Firefighters pronounced the unidentified victim dead at the scene. The collision remains under investigation.
