An investigation was underway Thursday in Vista, where a 16-month-old girl wandered into the street and was fatally struck by a Ford F150 truck.
The fatality in the area of 1322 York Drive was reported at 6:07 p.m. Wednesday, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt.
“For unknown reasons, (the girl) left her residence and wandered into the roadway,” Bettencourt said in a statement, adding that she died shortly after being airlifted to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.
The driver, a 53-year-old Vista woman, remained at the scene, he said.
