Police conducted a sobriety/driver’s license checkpoint in Escondido Friday night that netted two arrests, 43 citations and nine impounded vehicles.
The DUI stop was held in the area of Valley Parkway and Juniper Street, Escondido Police Lt. Justin Murphy said.
A total of 1,228 vehicles were screened during the operation and 64 vehicles were sent to a secondary screening because the driver could not provide officers with a valid license or the motorist was suspected of driving under the influence.
The secondary screening resulted in two people getting arrested for allegedly driving under the influence, Murphy said. Officers also issued 43 citations during the operation, seven for driving with a suspended license, 26 for unlicensed drivers and 10 for not having insurance. Nine vehicles were also impounded.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
