Arraignment was scheduled Thursday for an Oak Park man who allegedly threw illegal drugs out of his car while leading authorities on a high-speed road chase from Bay Terraces to his home, where he bailed out of the vehicle and was arrested in a neighbor’s yard.
Kristian Childs, 42, refused to pull over when a deputy tried to stop him about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday for a vehicle-code violation on state Route 54, near Woodman Street, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Childs sped off and immediately began hurling things out of his vehicle, including a backpack that contained about three ounces of methamphetamine, a small amount of heroin, packaging materials and a digital scale, sheriff’s Sgt. Ted Greenwald said.
The suspect fled over various streets in eastern San Diego before pulling over in front of his home in the 5500 block of Redwood Street, where he jumped out and ran off. Deputies searched the area, finding him hiding in an adjacent yard, the sergeant said.
Childs was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of narcotics offenses, driving while intoxicated, evading police and committing a felony while out on bail.
