Police were on the lookout Saturday for the man who displayed a gun to hold up a motel next to Interstate 8 in La Mesa.

The suspect approached an employee at the Motel 6 at 7621 Alvarado Road shortly after 9 p.m. Friday, pulled a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded money, according to La Mesa police Sgt. Katy Lynch.

The robber ran off with an undisclosed amount and headed east on Alvarado Road, Lynch said.

A subsequent search of the area failed to flush out the suspect, according to the sergeant.

Police described the robber as black, in his 20s, and about 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, black pants and shoes, a black baseball cap, black gloves and a black mask covering his mouth and nose.

Lynch asked anyone with information on the robbery to call La Mesa police at (619) 667-1400, or to contact Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or via email at sdcrimestoppers.com.
