A disabled parolee who disappeared from the East County convalescent home where he was staying was being sought Thursday.

Ronald Virgil Taylor, 50, went missing Wednesday afternoon, possibly with someone else’s help, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. His wheelchair was found near the clinic.

Taylor’s criminal history includes convictions from Los Angeles County for robbery, kidnapping, burglary, assault and bringing a weapon to prison. He was described as a 6-foot, roughly 230-pound black man.

Taylor, who requires constant medical attention, was released to medical parole in June. Medical parole differs from compassionate release as offenders on medical parole remain under CDCR’s supervision.

Luis Patino, a spokesman for state corrections, would not say exactly where Taylor had been housed, only that it was in eastern San Diego County.
