Two San Diego motorcycle officers were injured Monday, at least one of them seriously, when they collided on the Silver Strand while riding in a motorcade for a visiting European head of state.

The two policemen were helping escort Slovak President Andrej Kiska on the coastal thoroughfare when they crashed about 7:45 a.m. several miles south of Hotel del Coronado, SDPD public-affairs Officer Matt Tortorella said.

Paramedics took both officers to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest. At least one of them was severely injured, according to Tortorella.
