A person was killed early Sunday and a man fled the scene after a crash on Interstate 5 in Encinitas that involved a large, overturned SUV.
The crash on the northbound freeway, north of Encinitas Boulevard, was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 2:52 a.m., according to CHP’s traffic incident information.
According to the CHP, there were two other vehicles on the right shoulder of the freeway.
An occupant from one of the vehicles, described as a bald 185-pound 6- foot, 3-inch tall white man with tattoos and a mustache, fled the scene on foot. He was last seen wearing a turquoise shirt.
