The death of a 22-month-old boy inside an Oceanside residence where his mother was discovered unconscious was being investigated Thursday as a homicide, police said.
Officers dispatched to the residence in the 300 block of Woodpark Way near Fireside Street at about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday attempted to resuscitate the toddler until paramedics arrived and took over, Oceanside Police Lt. Leonard Cosby said. However, the child was ultimately declared dead at the scene.
The boy’s death was being investigated as a homicide, Oceanside police Sgt. Nate Brazelton said. Police said there was no sign of forced entry at the residence.
The boy’s 28-year-old mother was found in a downstairs room, unconscious and unresponsive, police said.
She was taken to Tri-City Medical Center. Brazelton said the woman had no life-threatening injuries.
