Police Monday were investigating the early morning sinking of an SUV near the San Diego Yacht Club that may have been a failed suicide attempt.
“A call came in about 2:30 a.m. of a vehicle driven into the water behind the San Diego Yacht Club,” said San Diego Harbor Police Sgt. Todd Rakos. “A man was discovered walking on the docks wet. He at first denied that he had been the driver, but ultimately admitted that it was a suicide attempt.”
Rakos said harbor police and San Diego Lifeguards subsequently investigated. He said divers found the vehicle, an Acura MDX SUV, laying on its roof in about 25 feet of water about 30 feet off the dock.
The man, who was not identified, was taken into custody for a 72-hour evaluation, Rakos said.
