A trolley struck a bicyclist at an East County intersection Tuesday, leaving him seriously injured and halting light-rail service in the area for about 90 minutes.
The accident at Spring Street and University Avenue in La Mesa occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Witnesses reported that the westbound bicyclist rode between closed grade-crossing arms into the path of the northbound trolley, ignoring warning lights, police said.
Medics took him to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego for treatment of a severe leg injury.
